What is matka silk?

Matka silk is a hand-loomed, rustic silk fabric made primarily from the waste cocoon or pierced cocoon of the mulberry silkworm where silk worm has escaped hence called peace silk also. . Because the filament cannot be reeled in long continuous strands, the fibers are spun, not reeled, producing a yarn with a characteristic slubby, irregular texture. Our Matka silk is produced largely in Bengal (India).
